C. Elmer Anderson
C. Elmer Anderson (March 16, 1912 – January 22, 1998) was an American politician who served as the 28th Governor of Minnesota from 1951 to 1955. He was a member of the Republican Party.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
C. Elmer Anderson was born in Brainerd, Minnesota. He attended local schools and later graduated from Brainerd High School. Anderson pursued higher education at the University of Minnesota, where he studied business and economics.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Mayor of Brainerd[edit | edit source]
Before becoming governor, Anderson served as the mayor of Brainerd from 1939 to 1943. His tenure as mayor was marked by efforts to improve local infrastructure and public services.
Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota[edit | edit source]
In 1942, Anderson was elected as the Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota, a position he held from 1943 to 1951. During his time as lieutenant governor, he worked closely with Governor Luther Youngdahl on various state initiatives.

Anderson became the Governor of Minnesota in 1951 after the resignation of Governor Luther Youngdahl, who was appointed to a federal judgeship. Anderson was subsequently elected to a full term in 1952. His administration focused on issues such as education, transportation, and public health. He was known for his moderate political stance and efforts to promote bipartisanship.
Later Life and Legacy[edit | edit source]
After leaving office in 1955, Anderson remained active in public service and community affairs. He served on various boards and committees, contributing to the development of Minnesota's public policies. Anderson passed away on January 22, 1998, in Brainerd, Minnesota.
