The University of Minnesota (UMN) is a public research university located in Minneapolis and Saint Paul, Minnesota. It is the flagship institution of the University of Minnesota system and is known for its comprehensive academic programs, research initiatives, and vibrant campus life.

The University of Minnesota was founded in 1851, seven years before the Minnesota Territory became a state. It was initially established as a preparatory school, but it closed during the American Civil War due to financial difficulties. The university reopened in 1867 with the help of a donation from John S. Pillsbury, who is often referred to as the "Father of the University."
Campuses[edit | edit source]
The University of Minnesota has two main campuses in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul. The Minneapolis campus is divided into the East Bank and West Bank by the Mississippi River. The Saint Paul campus is located in the suburb of Falcon Heights.
Minneapolis Campus[edit | edit source]
The Minneapolis campus is the largest and houses the majority of the university's colleges and schools. Notable buildings include Northrop Auditorium, Walter Library, and the Weisman Art Museum. The campus is known for its vibrant student life and is home to the Golden Gophers athletic teams.

The Saint Paul campus focuses on programs related to agriculture, food science, and environmental studies. It is home to the College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences and the College of Veterinary Medicine.
