The first case in the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir was reported on 9 March 2020 in the city of Srinagar.

Background[edit | edit source]

The COVID-19 pandemic began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The virus spread rapidly across the globe, leading to widespread health, economic, and social impacts. In India, the first case was reported on 30 January 2020 in the state of Kerala.

Timeline[edit | edit source]

Following this, the government of Jammu and Kashmir took several measures to contain the spread of the virus, including the closure of educational institutions and restrictions on public gatherings.

Social Impact[edit | edit source]

The pandemic also had a profound social impact, with disruptions to education, increased unemployment, and mental health challenges. The closure of schools and colleges forced a shift to online education, which posed challenges due to limited internet connectivity in some areas.
