California Raisin Advisory Board[edit | edit source]
The California Raisin Advisory Board (CRAB) is a non-profit organization that represents the interests of California raisin growers and packers. It was established in 1998 and is based in Fresno, California. The CRAB's main objective is to promote and market California raisins both domestically and internationally.
History[edit | edit source]
The California Raisin Advisory Board was formed as a result of the California Raisin Marketing Order, which was implemented in 1998. The marketing order was created to provide a unified voice for California raisin growers and packers and to support the marketing and promotion of California raisins.
Activities[edit | edit source]
The CRAB carries out various activities to promote California raisins. These include:
1. Marketing and advertising campaigns: The CRAB develops and implements marketing and advertising campaigns to increase consumer awareness and demand for California raisins. These campaigns may include television commercials, print advertisements, and online promotions.
2. Trade shows and events: The CRAB participates in trade shows and events both domestically and internationally to showcase California raisins and establish business relationships with potential buyers and partners.
3. Research and development: The CRAB invests in research and development to improve the quality and production of California raisins. This includes funding studies on new growing techniques, pest management, and product innovation.
4. Consumer education: The CRAB provides educational resources and materials to consumers, such as recipes, nutritional information, and tips on incorporating raisins into a healthy diet.
Funding[edit | edit source]
The California Raisin Advisory Board is funded through assessments on California raisin growers and packers. These assessments are based on the volume of raisins produced or packed by each individual or entity. The funds collected are used to support the CRAB's marketing and promotional activities, research and development initiatives, and administrative expenses.
