California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) is a public university in Los Angeles, California. It is part of the California State University (CSU) system. Cal State LA offers 142 bachelor's degrees, 122 master's degrees, and four doctoral degrees: a Doctor of Education (Ed.D) in Educational Leadership, a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), a Doctor of Audiology (Au.D), and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in Special Education in collaboration with University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

Cal State LA was founded on July 2, 1947, by an act of the California State Legislature. The university was originally named Los Angeles State College. In 1964, the name was changed to California State College at Los Angeles, and in 1972, it became California State University, Los Angeles.

Campus[edit | edit source]

The university's main campus is located in the eastern region of Los Angeles, adjacent to the San Gabriel Mountains. The campus spans 175 acres and includes a mix of modern and historic buildings. Notable facilities include the Luckman Fine Arts Complex, the Harriet and Charles Luckman Fine Arts Gallery, and the James A. Garfield High School.

Cal State LA has a diverse student body with a variety of student organizations, including cultural clubs, academic societies, and recreational groups. The university also has a strong athletics program, with teams competing in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA).

The Cal State LA Golden Eagles compete in the NCAA Division II and are members of the California Collegiate Athletic Association. The university offers a range of sports, including basketball, soccer, track and field, and volleyball.
