Canandaigua Veterans Hospital Historic District
Canandaigua Veterans Hospital Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in Canandaigua, Ontario County, New York. The district encompasses a complex of 17 contributing buildings and 1 contributing structure that are part of the Canandaigua VA Medical Center. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013.

The Canandaigua Veterans Hospital Historic District was established in 1933 as a response to the need for medical and psychiatric care for veterans of World War I. The hospital was one of several built across the country to provide care for the increasing number of veterans suffering from shell shock, now known as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
Architecture[edit | edit source]
The architectural style of the buildings within the district is predominantly Colonial Revival, with some elements of Georgian Revival and Federal architecture. The buildings are arranged in a semi-circular plan, with the main hospital building at the center. The buildings are primarily two to three stories in height, constructed of red brick with limestone trim.

The Canandaigua VA Medical Center provides a range of services for veterans, including primary care, specialty care, mental health services, and long-term care. The center also offers services for homeless veterans and those suffering from substance abuse.
