Cangene Corporation was a biopharmaceutical company based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. It specialized in the development, manufacture, and commercialization of specialty hyperimmune products, contract manufacturing, and biopharmaceuticals. Cangene was one of Canada's oldest and largest biopharmaceutical companies before it was acquired by Emergent BioSolutions in 2014.

Cangene was founded in 1984 and became a publicly traded company in 1991. The company focused on developing products derived from human plasma, including hyperimmune products used to treat infectious diseases and immune deficiencies. Over the years, Cangene expanded its product line and capabilities, including contract manufacturing services for other biopharmaceutical companies.

Acquisition by Emergent BioSolutions[edit | edit source]

In 2014, Cangene was acquired by Emergent BioSolutions, a global life sciences company focused on providing specialty products for civilian and military populations that address accidental, intentional, and naturally occurring public health threats. The acquisition allowed Emergent BioSolutions to expand its product portfolio and manufacturing capabilities.

Cangene operated several facilities, including its headquarters and primary manufacturing plant in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The company also had facilities in the United States, including a plasma collection center in Baltimore, Maryland.
