- Canton is a city located in the southeastern part of the state of South Dakota, United States. It is the county seat of Lincoln County and is part of the Sioux Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city is known for its rich history, scenic beauty, and friendly community.

- Canton was platted in 1866 and was named by settlers who had previously lived in Canton, Illinois. The city was incorporated in 1880. It has a rich history that is reflected in its well-preserved downtown area and numerous historic sites.
Geography[edit | edit source]
- Canton is located at the intersection of U.S. Route 18 and South Dakota Highway 11. The Big Sioux River flows on the eastern edge of the city.

- As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 3,057. The city has seen steady growth in recent years, largely due to its proximity to Sioux Falls.
