Cape Town is the second most populous city in South Africa, following Johannesburg. It is the legislative capital of the country and is located on the shore of Table Bay. Cape Town is known for its harbour and landmarks such as Table Mountain and Cape Point.

Cape Town was first developed by the Dutch East India Company as a supply station for Dutch ships sailing to East Africa, India, and the Far East. The city's history is marked by the influence of the Dutch colonial period, including the establishment of the first European settlement in South Africa in the city.

Cape Town is located at the northern end of the Cape Peninsula, which extends southwards into the Atlantic Ocean. The city is surrounded by various natural features including Table Mountain, Cape Point, and the Cape of Good Hope.

Cape Town has a Mediterranean climate with mild, moderately wet winters and dry, warm summers. The city is known for the strong Cape Doctor wind that blows annually from the south-east.

Cape Town is home to several well-known educational institutions, including the University of Cape Town, which is the oldest university in South Africa.

Cape Town has a well-developed transport system that includes a railway network, bus services, and two airports, including the Cape Town International Airport.
