Capernwray Dive Centre
Capernwray Dive Centre is a popular scuba diving site located in Carnforth, Lancashire, United Kingdom. The centre is situated in a former quarry, which has been flooded and repurposed as a diving site.
History[edit | edit source]
The quarry was originally used for the extraction of limestone, a common building material. After the quarry was abandoned, it naturally filled with water over time, creating a large, deep lake. In the 1990s, the site was transformed into the Capernwray Dive Centre.
Features[edit | edit source]
The Capernwray Dive Centre is known for its clear water and diverse range of submerged features. These include a variety of sunken vessels such as a Hawker Siddeley HS 748 aircraft, a cabin cruiser, and a galleon. The centre also features underwater sculptures and a submerged training platform for beginners.
The centre is stocked with a variety of fish species, including rainbow trout, mirror carp, and sturgeon, which divers can observe during their dives.
Facilities[edit | edit source]
Capernwray Dive Centre offers a range of facilities for divers. These include equipment hire, air and nitrox fills, and a dive shop. The centre also provides training courses for divers of all levels, from beginners to advanced divers.
Events[edit | edit source]
Throughout the year, Capernwray Dive Centre hosts a number of events. These include dive festivals, underwater photography competitions, and charity dive events.
