== Capital Cities/ABC ==

Capital Cities/ABC Inc. was an American media company that was formed in 1985 through the merger of Capital Cities Communications and the American Broadcasting Company (ABC). The company was a significant player in the media industry until it was acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 1996.

History[edit | edit source]

Capital Cities/ABC was created when Capital Cities Communications, a media company with interests in television and radio stations, acquired the American Broadcasting Company (ABC), one of the major television networks in the United States. The merger was notable for its size and the fact that a smaller company, Capital Cities, was acquiring a much larger one, ABC.

Operations[edit | edit source]

The company operated a variety of media properties, including television and radio stations, cable television networks, and publishing interests. Some of the notable assets included the ABC Television Network, ESPN, and several local television and radio stations across the United States.

Acquisition by Disney[edit | edit source]

In 1996, The Walt Disney Company acquired Capital Cities/ABC for $19 billion, which was one of the largest media mergers at the time. This acquisition allowed Disney to expand its media holdings significantly and integrate ABC's television network and other media properties into its portfolio.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

The merger and subsequent acquisition by Disney had a lasting impact on the media landscape, leading to further consolidation in the industry. The integration of ABC and its assets into Disney's operations helped to create one of the largest and most diversified media companies in the world.
