Carmen Anthony Puliafito is an American ophthalmologist and academic administrator. He is best known for his tenure as the Dean of the Keck School of Medicine of USC.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Puliafito was born in Buffalo, New York. He attended Harvard University, where he earned his undergraduate degree. He then went on to receive his medical degree from the Harvard Medical School.

Career[edit | edit source]

Puliafito began his career in ophthalmology, specializing in the treatment of retinal diseases. He has been involved in significant research and has published numerous articles in medical journals.

Dean of Keck School of Medicine[edit | edit source]

Puliafito served as the Dean of the Keck School of Medicine of USC from 2007 to 2016. During his tenure, he was credited with increasing the school's research funding and expanding its clinical operations. However, his career at USC ended amid controversy.

Controversies[edit | edit source]

In 2017, Puliafito was the subject of a series of investigative reports by the Los Angeles Times, which detailed allegations of drug use and other misconduct. These reports led to his resignation from USC and the suspension of his medical license.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Puliafito is married and has children. He has largely remained out of the public eye since the controversies surrounding his career.
