Catalina Micaela of Spain (10 October 1567 – 6 November 1597) was a Spanish princess and the daughter of King Philip II of Spain and his third wife, Elisabeth of Valois. She was born in the Royal Monastery of Saint Lawrence in the Escorial, Spain.
Early Life[edit | edit source]
Catalina Micaela was the second daughter of Philip II and Elisabeth of Valois. She was named after her paternal grandmother, Catherine of Aragon. She grew up in the Spanish court and received a comprehensive education befitting her royal status.
Marriage and Family[edit | edit source]
In 1585, Catalina Micaela married Charles Emmanuel I, Duke of Savoy. The marriage was arranged for political reasons to strengthen ties between Spain and the Duchy of Savoy. The couple had several children, including Victor Amadeus I, Duke of Savoy.
Patronage and Legacy[edit | edit source]
Catalina Micaela was known for her patronage of the arts and support for charitable causes. She was a devout Catholic and supported various religious institutions. Her legacy includes the construction of several churches and charitable organizations in Spain and the Duchy of Savoy.
Death[edit | edit source]
Catalina Micaela passed away on 6 November 1597 in Turin, Italy. She was mourned by her family and subjects for her kindness and generosity.
