Catherine Woteki

Catherine Woteki was born in the United States. She earned her B.S. degree in biology and chemistry from Mary Washington College. She then went on to receive her Ph.D. in human nutrition from Virginia Tech.

She served as the Under Secretary of Agriculture for Research, Education, and Economics and as the Chief Scientist at the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) from 2010 to 2016. Prior to her tenure at the USDA, Woteki was the first Under Secretary of Food Safety at the USDA, a position she held from 1997 to 2001. In this role, she was responsible for ensuring the safety of the nation's meat, poultry, and egg products.
