Cathy Giessel is an American politician and nurse practitioner who served as a member of the Alaska Senate from 2011 to 2021. She represented District N and later District L after redistricting. Giessel is a member of the Republican Party.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Cathy Giessel was born in Fairbanks, Alaska. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from the University of Michigan.

Career[edit | edit source]

Giessel worked as a nurse practitioner before entering politics. She has been involved in various healthcare initiatives and has been a strong advocate for healthcare reform in Alaska.

Political career[edit | edit source]

Giessel was first elected to the Alaska Senate in 2010, taking office in January 2011. During her tenure, she served on several committees, including the Senate Resources Committee and the Senate Health and Social Services Committee. She was known for her work on energy policy, healthcare, and resource development.

In 2018, Giessel was elected as the President of the Alaska Senate, a position she held until 2021. As Senate President, she played a key role in shaping legislative priorities and guiding the legislative process.

Cathy Giessel is married to Richard Giessel, and they have three children. They reside in Anchorage, Alaska.
