Centenary College of Louisiana at Jackson
Centenary College of Louisiana at Jackson was a historic educational institution located in Jackson, Louisiana. It was originally established in 1825 as the College of Louisiana and later became Centenary College of Louisiana in 1845. The college played a significant role in the educational landscape of the region during the 19th century.

The College of Louisiana was founded in 1825 by the Presbyterian Church and was one of the earliest institutions of higher learning in the state. In 1845, the college was acquired by the Methodist Episcopal Church, South and renamed Centenary College of Louisiana. The name "Centenary" was chosen to commemorate the centennial of the founding of Methodism.
Campus[edit | edit source]
The campus of Centenary College of Louisiana at Jackson was known for its beautiful architecture and expansive grounds. The main building, constructed in the Greek Revival style, was a prominent feature of the campus. The college also had several other buildings, including dormitories, a chapel, and faculty residences.

Centenary College of Louisiana at Jackson offered a classical education with a curriculum that included Latin, Greek, mathematics, philosophy, and theology. The college was known for its rigorous academic standards and produced many notable alumni who went on to have significant careers in various fields.
Closure and Legacy[edit | edit source]
The college faced financial difficulties and declining enrollment in the late 19th century. In 1908, the decision was made to relocate the college to Shreveport, Louisiana, where it continues to operate today as Centenary College of Louisiana. The original campus in Jackson was eventually abandoned, and many of the buildings fell into disrepair.
