Central Philippine University
Central Philippine University (CPU) is a private research university located in Iloilo City, Philippines. Founded by American missionaries in 1905, it is one of the oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher learning in the country. Central Philippine University was established through the initiatives of American missionaries from the Baptist denomination. It started as a small elementary school called the Jaro Industrial School with the primary intention of providing education and vocational training to the underprivileged youth of the region. Over the years, it expanded its academic offerings and was granted university status in 1953, becoming known as Central Philippine University.
