Charles Leiper Grigg (May 11, 1868 – February 17, 1940) was an American inventor and businessman, best known for creating the popular soft drink, 7 Up.

Grigg was born on May 11, 1868, in Price's Branch, Missouri. He grew up in a farming family and developed an interest in chemistry and inventing from a young age. Grigg attended local schools and later pursued further education in chemistry at a university.

Invention of 7 Up[edit | edit source]

In 1929, Grigg introduced his most famous creation, 7 Up. Originally named "Bib-Label Lithiated Lemon-Lime Soda," the name was later changed to 7 Up to highlight the drink's seven main ingredients. The beverage quickly gained popularity due to its refreshing taste and unique branding.
