History[edit | edit source]

The song "Cheeseburger in Paradise" was written and performed by Jimmy Buffett and appeared on his 1978 album Son of a Son of a Sailor. The song was inspired by a boating trip in the Caribbean during which Buffett was forced to eat canned food and peanut butter due to the lack of fresh food. Upon arriving in Tortola, he indulged in a cheeseburger at a local restaurant, which he described as a "cheeseburger in paradise".

The restaurant chain was a result of a partnership between Buffett and OSI Restaurant Partners. The first Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurant opened in Indianapolis, Indiana in August 2002. The restaurant was themed around the "island escapism" lifestyle portrayed in Buffett's music.
