Cheng
Cheng is a common Chinese surname that can also be an element in Chinese placenames.
Etymology[edit | edit source]
The surname Cheng means "ascend, mount, complete, sincere, clear, plain, to succeed". It is often from the name of a state in today's Henan province. During the Zhou Dynasty, the Cheng state was granted to the descendants of the legendary sage king Emperor Shun.
Distribution[edit | edit source]
Cheng is the 20th most common surname in Mainland China and the 30th most common surname in Taiwan.
