Cheri Blauwet (born May 15, 1980) is an American physician and wheelchair racer. She has competed in the Paralympic Games and has won multiple medals. Blauwet is also known for her advocacy work in promoting disability rights and inclusive healthcare.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Cheri Blauwet was born in Larchwood, Iowa. She sustained a spinal cord injury at a young age, which led her to use a wheelchair. Blauwet attended Stanford University, where she earned her undergraduate degree. She later attended the Stanford University School of Medicine to obtain her medical degree.
Athletic Career[edit | edit source]
Blauwet began her athletic career in wheelchair racing during her time at Stanford. She has competed in several Paralympic Games, including the 2000 Summer Paralympics in Sydney, the 2004 Summer Paralympics in Athens, and the 2008 Summer Paralympics in Beijing. She has won a total of seven Paralympic medals, including gold, silver, and bronze.
In addition to her success at the Paralympics, Blauwet has also excelled in marathon racing. She has won the Boston Marathon and the New York City Marathon multiple times in the women's wheelchair division.
Medical Career[edit | edit source]
After completing her medical degree, Blauwet pursued a residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the Harvard Medical School. She is now an attending physician at the Brigham and Women's Hospital and the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Blauwet is also an assistant professor at the Harvard Medical School.

Blauwet is a prominent advocate for disability rights and inclusive healthcare. She has served on various committees and boards, including the International Paralympic Committee and the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee. Blauwet has been recognized with numerous awards for her contributions to sports and medicine.

Blauwet is married and has children. She continues to be active in both her medical practice and her advocacy work.
