Chesterfield County is a county located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 364,548. Its county seat is Chesterfield Court House.

History[edit | edit source]

Chesterfield County was established in 1749 from parts of Henrico County. The county was named for Philip Stanhope, 4th Earl of Chesterfield, a British statesman and writer. The area has a rich history, including significant events during the American Civil War.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Chesterfield County is located in the central part of Virginia. It is bordered by the James River to the north and the Appomattox River to the south. The county has a total area of 437 square miles, of which 423 square miles is land and 14 square miles is water.
