Children's Hospice South West
Children's Hospice South West (CHSW) is a charitable organization in the United Kingdom that provides hospice care for children with life-limiting conditions and their families. Established in 1991, CHSW offers a range of services including respite care, palliative care, emergency care, and end-of-life care.
History[edit | edit source]
Children's Hospice South West was founded by Eddie Farwell and his late wife, Jill, after experiencing the lack of hospice care for their own children. The first hospice, Little Bridge House, was opened in Barnstaple, Devon in 1995. This was followed by the opening of Charlton Farm in Wraxall, North Somerset in 2007, and Little Harbour in St Austell, Cornwall in 2011.
Services[edit | edit source]
CHSW provides comprehensive care tailored to the needs of each child and their family. Services include:
- Respite Care: Short breaks for families to rest and recharge.
- Palliative Care: Specialized medical care focused on providing relief from the symptoms and stress of a serious illness.
- Emergency Care: Immediate support during a crisis.
- End-of-Life Care: Compassionate care during the final stages of life.
Locations[edit | edit source]
CHSW operates three hospices:
- Little Bridge House in Barnstaple, Devon
- Charlton Farm in Wraxall, North Somerset
- Little Harbour in St Austell, Cornwall
Fundraising and Support[edit | edit source]
As a charity, CHSW relies heavily on donations and fundraising efforts. Various events and campaigns are organized throughout the year to support the hospices. Volunteers also play a crucial role in the day-to-day operations and fundraising activities.
Impact[edit | edit source]
CHSW has made a significant impact on the lives of many families in the South West of England. By providing a supportive environment and specialized care, the organization helps families navigate the challenges of life-limiting conditions.
