Chinatowns in Queens

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

Chinatowns in Queens refers to several ethnic enclaves of overseas Chinese people located in the New York City borough of Queens. These neighborhoods have grown significantly since the late 20th century due to large-scale immigration from mainland China, Taiwan, and other regions of East Asia.

History[edit | edit source]

The first Chinese immigrants in Queens settled in Flushing in the late 1970s, drawn by the affordable housing and job opportunities. The area's Chinatown grew rapidly in the 1980s and 1990s, and by the 2000s, it had surpassed the original Manhattan Chinatown in size and population.
