Chucky Mullins was a former American football player who played as a defensive back for the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) Rebels. He is best known for a tragic injury he sustained during a game against Vanderbilt University on October 28, 1989.

Charles "Chucky" Mullins was born on July 8, 1969, in Russellville, Alabama. He grew up with a passion for football and excelled as a high school athlete, earning a scholarship to play for the Ole Miss Rebels.
College Career[edit | edit source]
Mullins joined the Ole Miss football team in 1988 and quickly made a name for himself as a talented and hard-hitting player. He wore jersey number 38 and was known for his fierce competitiveness on the field.
The Injury[edit | edit source]
During a game against Vanderbilt in 1989, Mullins suffered a devastating injury while making a tackle that left him paralyzed from the neck down. The injury had a profound impact on the Ole Miss community and sparked an outpouring of support for Mullins and his family.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
Despite his paralysis, Mullins remained an inspiration to his teammates and fans. The university retired his jersey number in his honor, and the Chucky Mullins Courage Award was established to recognize the player who best embodies his spirit and determination.
Death[edit | edit source]
Tragically, Chucky Mullins passed away on May 6, 1991, due to complications from his spinal cord injury. He was 21 years old at the time of his death.
