Cinqair

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Cinqair (generic name: reslizumab) is a monoclonal antibody used as an add-on therapy for the treatment of severe asthma in patients aged 18 years and older. It is specifically indicated for patients with an eosinophilic phenotype, which is characterized by elevated levels of eosinophils in the blood.

Mechanism of Action[edit | edit source]

Cinqair works by targeting and inhibiting interleukin-5 (IL-5), a cytokine that plays a crucial role in the growth, differentiation, recruitment, activation, and survival of eosinophils. By binding to IL-5, Cinqair reduces the number of eosinophils, thereby decreasing inflammation and helping to control severe asthma symptoms.

Administration[edit | edit source]

Cinqair is administered via intravenous infusion. The recommended dosage is 3 mg/kg every four weeks. The infusion should be given by a healthcare professional in a clinical setting equipped to manage potential anaphylaxis.

Side Effects[edit | edit source]

Common side effects of Cinqair include:

Indications[edit | edit source]

Cinqair is indicated for:

  • Add-on maintenance treatment of severe asthma with an eosinophilic phenotype in adults.

Contraindications[edit | edit source]

Cinqair is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to reslizumab or any of its excipients.

Clinical Trials[edit | edit source]

Clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy of Cinqair in reducing asthma exacerbations and improving lung function in patients with elevated eosinophil levels. These trials have shown significant reductions in the rate of asthma exacerbations and improvements in forced expiratory volume (FEV1).
