City, University of London is a public research university located in London, United Kingdom. It was founded in 1894 as the Northampton Institute and became a university in 1966. City joined the University of London federation in 2016, becoming one of its constituent colleges.

City, University of London has its origins in the Northampton Institute, which was established in 1894. The institute was named after the Marquess of Northampton, who donated the land for its construction. Initially, it focused on providing education in technical subjects and was instrumental in the development of engineering and applied sciences in London.

In 1966, the institution was granted university status by royal charter and became known as City University. Over the years, City has expanded its academic offerings and now provides a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across various disciplines.

In 2016, City University joined the University of London, enhancing its reputation and academic standing.
