Clear Lake is a city in Deuel County, South Dakota, United States. The population was 1,273 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Deuel County.

Clear Lake was platted in 1884. The city took its name from nearby Clear Lake. A post office called Clear Lake has been in operation since 1885. The city was incorporated in 1900.

. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.35 square miles (3.50 km²), all land.

Demographics[edit | edit source]

As of the census of 2020, there were 1,273 people, 563 households, and 345 families residing in the city. The population density was 943.7 inhabitants per square mile (364.4/km²). There were 635 housing units at an average density of 470.4 per square mile (181.6/km²).

Education[edit | edit source]

Clear Lake is served by the Deuel School District, which provides education from kindergarten through 12th grade. The district's high school is Deuel High School.

The economy of Clear Lake is primarily based on agriculture, with many residents engaged in farming and related activities. The city also has a number of small businesses and services that support the local community.
