Clitocybe rivulosa has a cap that ranges in color from white to pale cream. The cap is convex when young, becoming funnel-shaped with age. The gills are white and crowded together. The stem is white and fibrous, with no ring or volva present.
Toxicity[edit | edit source]
The Fool's Funnel is highly toxic if ingested. It contains toxins that can cause gastrointestinal distress, such as nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In severe cases, consumption of this mushroom can lead to organ failure and even death.
Habitat and Distribution[edit | edit source]
Clitocybe rivulosa is commonly found in Europe and North America. It grows in woodlands, grassy areas, and other damp habitats. The mushroom typically fruits in late summer to autumn.

There are several species of mushrooms that resemble Clitocybe rivulosa, including the edible Clitocybe geotropa and the poisonous Clitocybe dealbata. It is important for foragers to be able to distinguish between these species to avoid accidental poisoning.

Due to its toxicity, Clitocybe rivulosa is not harvested for consumption. However, it plays a role in the ecosystem as a decomposer, breaking down organic matter and recycling nutrients in the soil.
