Crowd sourcing
Crowd sourcing relies on the power, and wisdom of the crowd in order to obtain information or input by enlisting the services of a large number of people, via the internet. An example of crowd sourcing used in the context of building accurate and reliable information is Wikipedia.
WikiMD crowd sourcing in medicine[edit | edit source]
At WikiMD, we believe that the complexities of obtaining accurate and up to date information when it comes to healthcare, be it the information about your doctor, their services, hours, locations, insurances or information about a particular procedure, drug, or treatment, we can use the power and wisdom of the crowd to get the most accurate information.
According to Peter Frishauf, founder of Medscape, something like Wikipedia For Medicine is The Future! "For readers, Wikipedia is a win. In traditional publishing, readers must wade through many articles on a subject, each written by a few experts, published at 1 moment in time. In Wikipedia you read 1 living article written by many, continually updated by many.
Crowd sourcing at WikiMD[edit | edit source]
The same model can be used to write about physicians, and their services, hospitals, clinics, doctor's offices, and the like which is exactly what WikiMD aims to do. Join us in this effort.
WikiMD page for every healthcare provider[edit | edit source]
The goal of WikiMD is to create a page for every licensed healthcare provider with a focus on physicians. We aim to create an encyclopedia article about every healthcare provider in the world! There are just over a million healthcare providers in the United States alone. In fact, the World Health Organization estimates there are 9.2 million physicians, 19.4 million nurses and midwives, 1.9 million dentists and other dentistry personnel, 2.6 million pharmacists and other pharmaceutical personnel, and over 1.3 million community health workers worldwide.
