Crystal Lynn Bowersox (born August 4, 1985) is an American singer-songwriter and actress. She was the runner-up on the ninth season of American Idol.

Early life[edit | edit source]

Bowersox was born in Elliston, Ohio, and raised in the nearby city of Toledo, Ohio. She began performing locally at the age of 10. Her early influences include Bonnie Raitt, Melissa Etheridge, and Janis Joplin.

Career[edit | edit source]

American Idol[edit | edit source]

Bowersox auditioned for the ninth season of American Idol in Chicago, Illinois. She quickly became a fan favorite, known for her distinctive voice and emotive performances. She finished as the runner-up to Lee DeWyze.

Post-Idol Career[edit | edit source]

After American Idol, Bowersox signed a recording contract with Jive Records. Her debut album, Farmer's Daughter, was released in December 2010. The album received positive reviews and showcased her blend of folk, rock, and blues influences.

In 2013, she released her second album, All That for This, under Shanachie Records. The album featured collaborations with Jakob Dylan and was produced by Steve Berlin of Los Lobos.

In addition to her music career, Bowersox has pursued acting. She made her Broadway debut in 2011 in the musical Blood Brothers, playing the role of Mrs. Johnstone.

Personal life[edit | edit source]

Bowersox has been open about her struggles with Type 1 diabetes. She is an advocate for diabetes awareness and has worked with various organizations to promote education and support for those living with the condition.
