Cumberland County is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. As of the 2020 census, the population was 259,469. Its county seat is Carlisle. The county was created on January 27, 1750, from part of Lancaster County and named for Cumberland, England.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 550 square miles (1,400 km²), of which 545 square miles (1,410 km²) is land and 5.0 square miles (13 km²) (0.9%) is water. The Susquehanna River forms the eastern border of the county.

As of the 2020 census, there were 259,469 people, 102,670 households, and 66,000 families residing in the county. The population density was 476 people per square mile (184/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 89.5% White, 3.5% Black or African American, 0.2% Native American, 3.0% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, and 3.7% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.5% of the population.

Cumberland County is served by several public school districts, private schools, and higher education institutions. Notable institutions include Dickinson College, Penn State Dickinson Law, and the U.S. Army War College.

Cumberland County is governed by a board of three commissioners. The county is part of Pennsylvania's 10th congressional district.
