D. Geraint James
Welsh physician and sarcoidosis expert
David Geraint James (2 January 1922 – 20 October 2010) was a renowned Welsh physician and a leading authority on sarcoidosis. He was instrumental in advancing the understanding and treatment of this complex disease.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
David Geraint James was born in Aberdare, Wales, on 2 January 1922. He attended Aberdare Boys' Grammar School before pursuing medical studies at the University of Wales, where he graduated with a degree in medicine. He furthered his education at the University of Oxford, where he developed a keen interest in respiratory diseases.
Medical career[edit | edit source]
James began his medical career at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London, where he specialized in respiratory medicine. His work at the hospital led to significant advancements in the understanding of sarcoidosis, a disease characterized by the growth of tiny collections of inflammatory cells in different parts of the body.
Contributions to sarcoidosis research[edit | edit source]
James's most notable contribution to medicine was his extensive research on sarcoidosis. He established the first sarcoidosis clinic in the UK, which became a leading center for research and treatment of the disease.
