DADMS

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

DADMS or Department of the Navy Application and Database Management System is a comprehensive inventory system used by the United States Navy to manage and monitor its software applications and databases. It is a critical component of the Navy's information technology infrastructure, providing a centralized repository for tracking and managing the Navy's software assets.

Overview[edit | edit source]

DADMS is designed to provide a comprehensive view of the Navy's software environment, including information about the applications and databases used across the organization, their associated hardware and software platforms, and the business processes they support. This information is used to support strategic planning, budgeting, and decision-making processes within the Navy.

The system is managed by the Department of the Navy Chief Information Officer (DON CIO), who is responsible for ensuring that all Navy software applications and databases are registered in DADMS. This includes both commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and government off-the-shelf (GOTS) software, as well as custom-developed applications.

Functionality[edit | edit source]

DADMS provides a range of functionality to support the management of the Navy's software assets. This includes:

  • Inventory Management: DADMS provides a centralized repository for tracking all software applications and databases used by the Navy. This includes information about the software's vendor, version, and licensing details, as well as the hardware and software platforms it runs on.
  • Compliance Tracking: DADMS helps the Navy ensure compliance with federal and departmental software management policies. This includes tracking the use of unauthorized or unsupported software, and ensuring that all software is properly licensed.
  • Strategic Planning: By providing a comprehensive view of the Navy's software environment, DADMS supports strategic planning and decision-making processes. This includes identifying opportunities for software consolidation or modernization, and supporting budgeting and procurement processes.

Usage[edit | edit source]

DADMS is used by a wide range of stakeholders within the Navy, including IT managers, procurement officers, and senior leadership. It is also used by the DON CIO to monitor compliance with software management policies and to support strategic planning and decision-making processes.
