DHRS7

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

DHRS7 (Dehydrogenase/Reductase (SDR Family) Member 7) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the DHRS7 gene. This protein belongs to the short-chain dehydrogenases/reductases (SDR) family, which is a large family of enzymes that are involved in the metabolism of a variety of molecules such as fatty acids, retinoids, and steroids.

Function[edit | edit source]

The DHRS7 protein is a member of the SDR family, which is known for its role in the metabolism of a variety of molecules. The exact function of DHRS7 is not fully understood, but it is believed to be involved in the metabolism of certain lipids and steroids.

Gene[edit | edit source]

The DHRS7 gene is located on the long (q) arm of chromosome 17 at position 25.1. The gene spans approximately 20 kilobases and consists of 6 exons. The encoded protein is 323 amino acids in length.

Clinical significance[edit | edit source]

While the exact role of DHRS7 in human health and disease is not fully understood, it has been suggested that it may play a role in certain cancers. Some studies have found that the expression of DHRS7 is altered in certain types of cancer, suggesting that it may play a role in the development or progression of these diseases.
