DIC Entertainment (pronounced "Deek") was an international film and television production company. It was founded in 1971 as DIC Audiovisuel by Jean Chalopin in France. The company is known for producing numerous animated television series and films.

DIC Entertainment was originally established in France and later expanded its operations to the United States. In 1982, the company opened its American office, DIC Enterprises, in Burbank, California. The company became well-known for its high-quality animation and was a significant player in the animation industry during the 1980s and 1990s.

In 1986, DIC was acquired by Andy Heyward, who became the chairman and CEO. Under Heyward's leadership, the company produced many popular animated series, including Inspector Gadget, The Real Ghostbusters, Captain Planet and the Planeteers, and Sailor Moon.

Acquisitions and Mergers[edit | edit source]

In 1993, DIC was acquired by Capital Cities/ABC, which was later acquired by The Walt Disney Company in 1996. In 2000, Andy Heyward, along with other investors, bought back DIC from Disney. The company continued to operate independently until 2008, when it was acquired by Cookie Jar Group.

DIC Entertainment left a lasting impact on the animation industry, with many of its series becoming cultural icons. The company's focus on educational and entertaining content for children helped shape the landscape of children's television programming.
