DJ Food is an electronic music project currently headed by Kevin Foakes, also known as Strictly Kev. The project was originally created by the members of the Coldcut duo, Matt Black and Jonathan More, in 1990. DJ Food's music is known for its eclectic mix of trip hop, downtempo, and breakbeat styles.
History[edit | edit source]
DJ Food began as a collaboration between Coldcut members Matt Black and Jonathan More. The name "DJ Food" was conceived as a reference to the idea of providing "food for DJs," with the project initially focusing on creating music that could be used by other DJs in their sets. The first release under the DJ Food moniker was the 1990 album Jazz Brakes Volume 1, which was followed by several more volumes in the series. In the mid-1990s, Kevin Foakes (Strictly Kev) joined the project, and over time, he became the primary force behind DJ Food. The project continued to evolve, incorporating a wide range of musical influences and collaborating with various artists.
