DMMA

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

DMMA or Dimethoxyamphetamine is a psychedelic drug and a substituted amphetamine. It is a powerful psychoactive drug that has effects similar to those of other amphetamines and hallucinogens. DMMA is not commonly used and is not considered to be a popular recreational drug.

History[edit | edit source]

DMMA was first synthesized in the 1960s by Alexander Shulgin, a renowned chemist and psychopharmacologist. Shulgin is known for his work in the field of psychedelic research and for his contributions to the discovery and synthesis of many new psychoactive compounds.

Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

DMMA acts as a serotonin-releasing agent and a norepinephrine-releasing agent. It also acts as a dopamine-releasing agent to a lesser extent. DMMA is thought to produce its effects by increasing the levels of these neurotransmitters in the brain.

Effects[edit | edit source]

The effects of DMMA can vary greatly depending on the dose, the individual's physiology, and the environment in which it is taken. Effects can include euphoria, hallucinations, altered perception, and increased energy. However, DMMA can also cause negative effects such as anxiety, paranoia, and psychosis in some individuals.

Legal Status[edit | edit source]

DMMA is a controlled substance in many countries, including the United States, where it is classified as a Schedule I drug under the Controlled Substances Act. This means that it is illegal to manufacture, distribute, or possess DMMA without a license.
