Daniel Reed Crenshaw (born March 14, 1984) is an American politician and former Navy SEAL serving as the U.S. Representative for Texas's 2nd congressional district since 2019. He is a member of the Republican Party.
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Crenshaw was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, where his father was working in the oil industry. He grew up in Katy, Texas, and graduated from Tufts University with a Bachelor of Arts in international relations. He later earned a Master of Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School.
Military career[edit | edit source]
Crenshaw joined the United States Navy and became a Navy SEAL, serving on SEAL Team 3. During his third deployment, he was injured by an improvised explosive device (IED) in Afghanistan, resulting in the loss of his right eye. He was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal (with valor), and the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with valor) for his service.
Political career[edit | edit source]
Crenshaw was elected to the United States House of Representatives in 2018, succeeding Ted Poe. He represents Texas's 2nd congressional district, which includes parts of Houston. Crenshaw has been noted for his conservative views and has been involved in various legislative efforts related to national security, veterans' affairs, and healthcare.
Personal life[edit | edit source]
Crenshaw is married to Tara Blake. He is known for wearing an eye patch due to the injury he sustained during his military service.
