Dana Stubblefield

Dana William Stubblefield (born November 14, 1970) is a former American football defensive lineman who played in the National Football League (NFL). Over his career, Stubblefield played for the San Francisco 49ers, Washington Redskins, and Oakland Raiders. He was recognized for his performance on the field with three Pro Bowl appearances and was named the NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1997.

Early life[edit | edit source]

Dana Stubblefield was born in Cleves, Ohio, and attended Taylor High School in North Bend, Ohio. He excelled in football, earning high school All-American honors. Stubblefield went on to play college football at the University of Kansas, where he was a standout defensive lineman.

Professional career[edit | edit source]

Stubblefield was drafted in the first round of the 1993 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers. He made an immediate impact in the league, earning NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. Throughout his career, Stubblefield was known for his strength and agility on the defensive line, contributing significantly to his teams' defensive strategies.

During his tenure with the 49ers, Stubblefield helped the team win a Super Bowl championship in Super Bowl XXIX. After several successful seasons with the 49ers, he joined the Washington Redskins as a free agent in 1998 and later played for the Oakland Raiders before returning to the 49ers to finish his career.

Post-career issues[edit | edit source]

After retiring from professional football, Stubblefield faced several legal issues. In 2020, he was convicted of rape, for which he received a substantial prison sentence. This conviction has overshadowed his previous achievements in professional football.

Despite his post-career controversies, Stubblefield's contributions to the NFL during his playing career are notable. His performance in 1997 as the NFL Defensive Player of the Year and his role in the 49ers' Super Bowl victory are highlights of his professional legacy.
