The Oakland Raiders were a professional American football team based in Oakland, California. The team was established in 1960 and was a member of the American Football League (AFL) before joining the National Football League (NFL) in 1970 as part of the AFL-NFL merger. The Raiders were known for their distinctive silver and black uniforms and their passionate fan base, often referred to as the "Raider Nation."

History[edit | edit source]

The Oakland Raiders were founded in 1960 as a charter member of the AFL. The team struggled in its early years but began to find success under head coach Al Davis, who joined the team in 1963. Davis would later become the principal owner and general manager of the team, a position he held until his death in 2011.

In 1982, the Raiders moved to Los Angeles, California, becoming the Los Angeles Raiders. The team returned to Oakland in 1995 and remained there until 2019. In 2020, the franchise relocated to Las Vegas, Nevada, and became the Las Vegas Raiders.

Achievements[edit | edit source]

The Raiders have won three Super Bowl championships: Super Bowl XI (1976 season), Super Bowl XV (1980 season), and Super Bowl XVIII (1983 season). They have also won four conference championships and fifteen division championships.
