From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Deanston distillery is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery located in the village of Deanston, near the historic city of Stirling, Scotland. The distillery is housed in a former cotton mill and has been producing whisky since 1966.

History[edit | edit source]

The distillery's building was originally constructed as a cotton mill in 1785, during the Industrial Revolution. The mill was powered by the River Teith and was a significant employer in the local area. The mill ceased production in 1965 and was converted into a distillery the following year by the Deanston Distillery Co Ltd.

Production[edit | edit source]

Deanston distillery uses traditional methods of whisky production. The distillery sources its water from the River Teith, which is known for its pure, soft water, ideal for whisky production. The distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies, including the Deanston 12 Year Old, Deanston 18 Year Old and the Deanston Virgin Oak.

Characteristics[edit | edit source]

Deanston whiskies are known for their distinctive characteristics. They are un-chill filtered, which means they retain all of their natural flavors and are bottled at a high strength of 46.3% ABV. The whiskies have a light, fruity flavor with hints of sweet honey and subtle spice.

Visitor Centre[edit | edit source]

The distillery has a visitor centre that offers guided tours of the distillery, whisky tastings and a shop selling Deanston whiskies and other merchandise. The visitor centre is housed in the distillery's original warehouse, which dates back to the 18th century.

In popular culture[edit | edit source]

Deanston distillery has been featured in several films and television series, including the popular series Outlander.
