History[edit | edit source]

Del Taco was established on September 16, 1964, in Yermo, California. The founders, Ed Hackbarth and David Jameson, aimed to create a restaurant that offered high-quality food at reasonable prices. The first Del Taco restaurant was an immediate success, leading to the opening of additional locations.

In 1973, the company introduced its iconic "red and green" burritos, which became a staple on the menu. By the late 1970s, Del Taco had expanded to over 50 locations. The chain continued to grow throughout the 1980s and 1990s, expanding its menu to include a variety of Mexican and American dishes.
