Derris taiwaniana is a species of leguminous plant in the genus Derris. It is native to Taiwan and is known for its use in traditional medicine and as a natural insecticide.

Description[edit | edit source]

Derris taiwaniana is a perennial climbing plant that belongs to the family Fabaceae. The plant features compound leaves with multiple leaflets, and it produces clusters of small, fragrant flowers. The flowers are typically white or pale pink and are followed by the development of seed pods.

Habitat[edit | edit source]

This species is commonly found in the subtropical and tropical regions of Taiwan. It thrives in well-drained soils and is often found in forested areas, along riverbanks, and in other moist environments.

Uses[edit | edit source]

Derris taiwaniana has been traditionally used in Taiwanese medicine for its purported health benefits. Additionally, the roots of the plant contain rotenone, a natural compound that has been used as an insecticide. Rotenone is effective against a variety of insect pests but is also toxic to fish and other aquatic organisms.

Conservation Status[edit | edit source]

The conservation status of Derris taiwaniana has not been extensively studied. However, like many native plants, it may be susceptible to habitat loss and environmental changes.
