Devon Air Ambulance
Devon Air Ambulance is a charitable organization that provides emergency medical services through the use of helicopters. The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and covers the entire county of Devon, England. The organization is funded by donations from the public and does not receive any government funding.
History[edit | edit source]
The Devon Air Ambulance was established in 1992 following the death of a local boy, Ceri Thomas, who was fatally injured in a road traffic accident. His mother, Ann Thomas, and her friends, believed that his life could have been saved if an air ambulance had been available. They started a fundraising campaign which led to the launch of the first Devon Air Ambulance.
Operations[edit | edit source]
The Devon Air Ambulance operates two helicopters, an EC135 and an EC145. The helicopters are equipped with advanced medical equipment and are staffed by a team of highly trained paramedics and doctors. The helicopters can reach any part of Devon within 15 minutes, and the Isles of Scilly within 30 minutes.
Funding[edit | edit source]
The Devon Air Ambulance is entirely funded by donations from the public. The organization does not receive any government funding. It costs around £7.5 million a year to run the service. The organization runs a number of fundraising events throughout the year and also operates a number of charity shops across Devon.
