Di Long is a type of earthworm that is typically 20-30 cm long and 3-5 mm in diameter. It has a cylindrical body that is segmented into approximately 120-180 sections. The body is dark brown or black in color, with a lighter underside. The dried body of the earthworm is used in TCM.

Traditional Uses[edit | edit source]

In TCM, Di Long is used to treat a variety of conditions. It is believed to have the ability to clear heat, calm the liver, and promote diuresis. It is often used in the treatment of high fever, convulsions, hypertension, and urinary tract infections. Additionally, it is used to alleviate symptoms of asthma, angina, and coronary heart disease.

Pharmacological Effects[edit | edit source]

Modern scientific research has shown that Di Long has several pharmacological effects. It has been found to have antipyretic effects, reducing fever in animal models. It also has antispasmodic effects, reducing the frequency and intensity of muscle spasms. Additionally, it has diuretic effects, increasing urine production and excretion.

Preparation and Dosage[edit | edit source]

Di Long is typically prepared by drying the earthworms in the sun or by baking them. The dried earthworms are then ground into a powder, which can be used to make a decoction or be encapsulated for oral administration. The typical dosage is 3-10 grams per day, but this can vary depending on the condition being treated and the individual's constitution.

Safety and Precautions[edit | edit source]

While Di Long is generally considered safe for most people when used appropriately, it should be used with caution in individuals with a weak constitution or those who are pregnant. As with any herbal medicine, it is recommended to consult with a healthcare provider before use.
