Diane E. Meier

Diane E. Meier is a prominent American physician, researcher, and author, best known for her contributions to the field of palliative care. She is the Director of the Center to Advance Palliative Care (CAPC), a national organization dedicated to increasing the availability of quality health care for people living with serious illness.

Diane E. Meier was born in New York City. She completed her undergraduate studies at Oberlin College, and later attended Cornell University Medical College for her medical degree. She completed her residency in Internal Medicine at Bellevue Hospital and later pursued a fellowship in Geriatrics at Mount Sinai Hospital.

Meier's career has been marked by her dedication to improving the quality of life for patients with serious illnesses. She has been instrumental in the development and growth of the field of palliative care in the United States. In 1999, she founded the Center to Advance Palliative Care, an organization that provides health care professionals with the tools, training, and technical assistance necessary to start and sustain successful palliative care programs.

Meier has also been a prolific researcher and author, with her work published in numerous medical journals. Her research has focused on improving care for seriously ill patients, with a particular emphasis on the role of palliative care in this process.

Meier's contributions to the field of palliative care have been widely recognized. She was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship in 2008 for her work in palliative care. In 2017, she was named one of the 50 most influential physician executives in healthcare by Modern Healthcare magazine.
