Diane Stanley is an American author and illustrator, best known for her children's books. She has written and illustrated numerous works, many of which are biographies of historical figures. Her books are celebrated for their detailed research, engaging storytelling, and beautiful illustrations.

Diane Stanley was born in Abilene, Texas. She developed an early interest in art and literature, which she pursued throughout her education. Stanley attended Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, where she earned a degree in art. She later studied medical illustration at Johns Hopkins University.

Stanley began her career as a medical illustrator, but she soon transitioned to writing and illustrating children's books. Her first book, The Trouble with Wishes, was published in 1980.
