Dickson County, Tennessee

Dickson County is a county located in the U.S. state of Tennessee. As of the 2020 census, the population was 54,315. Its county seat is Charlotte. The county was founded in 1803 and named for William Dickson, a Nashville physician and U.S. Congressman.

Dickson County was established on October 25, 1803, from parts of Montgomery and Robertson counties. The county was named in honor of William Dickson, a prominent physician and politician in the early history of Tennessee.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 491 square miles (1,270 km²), of which 490 square miles (1,300 km²) is land and 1.2 square miles (3.1 km²) (0.2%) is water.

As of the 2020 census, there were 54,315 people, 20,000 households, and 14,000 families residing in the county. The population density was 111 people per square mile (43/km²). The racial makeup of the county was 90.5% White, 5.2% Black or African American, 0.5% Native American, 0.6% Asian, and 1.2% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.0% of the population.

Dickson County is served by the Dickson County School District, which operates several elementary, middle, and high schools in the area. The county is also home to the Tennessee College of Applied Technology - Dickson.
