Dorothy A. Hogg is a retired United States Air Force lieutenant general who served as the Surgeon General of the United States Air Force from 2018 to 2021. She was the first woman to hold this position.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Hogg was born in Pennsylvania. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Pittsburgh. She later received a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of California, San Francisco and a Master of Arts in Military Strategic Studies from the Air War College.

Military Career[edit | edit source]

Hogg began her career in the United States Air Force as a nurse. Over the years, she held various positions, including Chief Nurse at multiple Air Force medical facilities. She also served as the Command Nurse for the Air Mobility Command and the Air Education and Training Command.

In 2018, Hogg was appointed as the Surgeon General of the United States Air Force, becoming the first woman to hold this position. During her tenure, she focused on improving the quality of healthcare for Air Force personnel and their families. She also played a significant role in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Throughout her career, Hogg received numerous awards and decorations, including the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, and the Meritorious Service Medal.

Retirement[edit | edit source]

Hogg retired from the United States Air Force in 2021 after more than 30 years of service. She continues to be an advocate for military healthcare and serves on various boards and committees related to healthcare and nursing.
